Искусство Кино — published since 1931 and thus, together with “Sight & Sound” and “Cahiers du Cinéma” one of the earliest magazines to cover the film industry, art and theory — has printed its last issue.
Yes, my work has been featured in it. But that’s not the main reason I lament the accelerated disappearance of a rare source of ideas and viewpoints on cinema in Russian.
Founded in the Soviet era, it has survived through countless political upheavals, even the mounting difficulties of recent years. Today, its contributors and ex-editor-in-chiefs are in exile. The magazine’s future is of little interest in a country valuing destruction over creation, offering nostalgia and resentment instead of hope and enthusiasm.
Empty and closing.
