ChatGPT. It’s a chat. Not AI.
It’s not Intelligent. It’s not even a knowledge base of Humanity, like Wikipedia or PubMed. It’s a collection of statistical models of knowledge. Some licensed, some stolen*. Oh, and no one understands how the inside works.
The chat predicts statistically probable responses based on 1) what you’ve typed into the field and 2) the bits and pieces of that prior collection of knowledge. It can’t even trace its own sources.
That’s why it’s called Chat Generative* Pre-Trained Transformer. 🤦🏻♂️
* The stolen and generative parts are the “issues” most affecting the professions that were supposed to be the least affected by AI — creatives like myself. Photographers. Illustrators. Screenwriters. Actors. Designers. The WAG + SAG-AFTRA strike is affecting the cinema industry in return.
