BERLIN FILM FESTIVAL – A MENTALLY SICK ASYLUM

by Anatoly IVANOV

CINEMA / SOCIETY / ESSAYS

If you care about my opinion about the Berlin Film Festival line-up and awards — except the very, very worthy La Prière — it’s a perfect image of the mentally sick asylum which is our current, past and future global society.

I chose to quit the asylum a while ago, to stop drinking (and doing other chemical alterations of the brain), and instead, to run, to climb, to do various types of yoga every morning and evening. In short, to explore the “sane” way described by the Vedas, the ancient Greeks, even Nietzsche (partially).

And artistically-wise, to show you the beautiful, the atemporally important, the grace of musical harmony, the color of the sky, the joy of selfless work.

Modernist? Yep. Anti-social? By juxtaposition.

And I won’t encourage you to waste 6 hours of your short life on films like Dovlatov or Nelubov. 6 hours (queues, transport included) of my life taken away.

Imagine 6 hours of meditation. How would you feel after that?
