Composer Georgia SPIROPOULOS

Composer Georgia SPIROPOULOS (born in Greece, 1965) studied piano, harmony, counterpoint and fugue in Athens. At the same time she studied jazz piano and worked as an instrumentalist and arranger of Hellenic traditional music of oral transmission for 10 years.<br /><br />She has been living in Paris since 1996 and studied composition, electro-acoustic and computer music with Philippe LEROUX (Conservatoire Eric Satie), form analysis with Michael LEVINAS (Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris, CNSMDP) and composition with Jacques CHARPENTIER (Conservatoire National de Paris, CNR).<br /><br />Selected by IRCAM in 2000-01 as one of 10 composers (among 400) to participate in the IRCAM’s Composition and Musical Computing Annual Course, she worked with Jonathan HARVEY, Tristan MURAIL, Brian FERNEYHOUGH, Marco STROPPA, Philippe HUREL and Ivan FEDELE. She has received commissions from IRCAM (Centre Georges Pompidou), the Ensemble Intercontemporain, the French Ministry of Culture, the Baden-Wurttemberg Ministry of Culture and the GegenWelten Festival of Heidelberg, Radio France, Sacem, the Itinéraire Ensemble, the 2E2M Ensemble and La Muse En Circuit, the Accentus Choir, Le Jeune Choeur de Paris Choir, the Habanera Saxophone Quartet, the Cries De Paris Choir, the “Diffraction” Ensemble, the saxophone player Claude Delangle and the cymbalist Elisabeth Chojnacka.<br /><br />Her works have been performed at IRCAM, Centre Pompidou, Cité de la Musique, Louvre Auditorum, Duo Dijon, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (San Francisco), Ooizumi-gakuen Yumeria Center (Tokyo), Hiroshimashi Nishikumin Bunka Center, Radial System V (Berlin), Elisabeth-Schneider-Stiftung (Freiburg), Kulturhaus Karlstorbahnhof (Heidelberg), Hessisches Staats Theater (Wiesbaden), Alte Schmiede (Vienna), Music Akademie of Krakow, Forum Culturel de Blanc-Mesnil, CNSM de Paris, Notre Dame des Blancs-Manteaux, Tour de Crest, Goethe Institut of Athens and Ionio University (Corfu).
