Between 1971 and 1980, he worked for the studio “Mosfilm” in a team of cameramen.

Andrei TARKOVSKY noticed PINKHASSOV and invited him to work as a still photographer on the set of Stalker. The two became friends (TARKOVSKY mentions PINKHASSOV in his journal “Martyrologue”)

In 1985, PINKHASSOV moved to Paris and later became a French citizen. He joined Magnum Photos in 1988 and became a member in 1994.

He works actively for the media and has covered the major events of the time: Armenian earthquake, the coups in Moscow, events in Lithuania, Mongolia, Indonesia and Africa.

He also creates advertising photographs for multinational corporations like Coca-Cola and France Telecom.

After my brief time as an intern at Magnum, where we became friends, I followed him during a reportage on the renovation of Centre Georges Pompidou in the end of 1999 for Figaro Magazine.
