Photographer Gueorgui PINKHASSOV

Born in Moscow in 1952, Gueorgui PINKHASSOV studied cinematography at VGIK (Superior Institute of Cinematography) in Moscow. Between 1971 and 1980, he worked for the studio "Mosfilm" in a team of cameramen. Andrei TARKOVSKY noticed PINKHASSOV and invited him to work as a still photographer on the set of Stalker. In 1985, PINKHASSOV moved to Paris and later became a French citizen. He joined Magnum Photos in 1988 and became a member in 1994. He works actively for the media. He has covered the major events of the time: Armenian earthquake, the coups in Moscow, events in Lithuania, Mongolia, Indonesia and Africa. He also creates advertising photographs for multinational corporations like Coca-Cola and France Telecom. — Shot during his reportage on the renovation of Centre Georges Pompidou in the end of 1999.
