Cyrus IMAP Server : RedHat RPMs by Simon MATTER

Server Overview

The Cyrus IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) server provides access to personal mail and system-wide bulletin boards through the IMAP protocol. The Cyrus IMAP server is a scalable enterprise mail system designed for use from small to large enterprise environments using standards-based technologies.

Developed by Carnegie Mellon University in the USA, Cyrus IMAP server features such advanced features as "sealed mailboxes", ACL (Access Control Lists), Kerberos and SASL authentication, Sieve (mail filtering) integration, etc. For more information about the server, take a visit to Carnegie Mellon's Cyrus web site.

RPMs Overview

Cyrus IMAP server is available only in tarball form from the Carnegie Mellon. It gives you the flexibility and control of custom compilation, but lacks the manageability and ease of use of RPMs.

Unfortunately, RedHat does not update their Cyrus IMAP server RPM included on Power Tools CD since RedHat 7.1. The version of Cyrus IMAP server included in their RPM is 2.0.9, whereas the current version developed by Carnegie Mellon is 2.1.5.

In order to run and administer Cyrus IMAP server, two major parts are required: Cyrus IMAPd daemon and SASL authentication framework. My goal is to provide myself and the Open Source community fresh, up-to-date packages of Cyrus IMAP daemon and Cyrus SASL.
